lecture

Sharon Louden came in to speak to us today. At the start I really didn't like her work, I respect her as an artist, but her type of work didn't interest me at first. She said she is inspired by nature, architecture, hair and dance. I saw some of that come through through her work. She says technology influences her work also, which I picked up by her animation as she called it. I wish it had sound ... it reminded me of an old video they would show in one of my high school science classes .. weird. All of her drawings were very paint-like and showed opacity. She started painting figures, and said that "boredom kicked her butt" and she really began to push herself. I loved her work with the glow in the dark paint on the three dimensional objects. It was really awesome how the objects themselves disappear in the dark, but the paint still showed her drawings and paintings that were on them. I also really loved the ceiling piece she created with the glass and fiber optics. It was such an interesting light source for a room, and something I can see myself having in my home someday.
